Seen from above, Galešnjak has a wonderfully familiar outline: two rounded lobes meeting in a point, like a heart set in the Adriatic. It is a small geographical detail with a large talent for catching the eye.
The island lies in Croatia’s Pašman Channel, south of Zadar, between the mainland coast and the island of Pašman. Its nickname, the Island of Love, reflects the shape that made its aerial photographs widely shared.
Where the heart sits on the map
The Pašman Tourist Board’s Galešnjak feature places the island in the channel. Croatia’s national tourism feature also highlights its distinctive outline.
Start with that wider view: mainland, channel, Pašman and the smaller islands between them. It makes the location easier to understand than a sequence of increasingly close screenshots with no useful place names.

Why it looks different from a boat
The heart shape is a plan view of the shoreline. At water level, you see the island’s near edge and rising ground, with other parts of the coast hidden behind them.
That does not make a boat view disappointing; it makes it a different experience. Choose a water excursion for the coast, time afloat and the actual stops described by the operator, rather than expecting a photograph taken from high above to match your eye-level view.

A private island is not automatically an open attraction
Galešnjak is privately owned. Before booking an excursion, ask whether the itinerary passes the island or includes an authorised landing, and what facilities are actually available.
A boat trip advertised with the island’s name does not by itself establish permission to wander ashore, camp or hold an event. Get the details from the operator and relevant property arrangements before making the island the centre of a special occasion.
Do not assume a drone can be flown simply because the place is known through aerial imagery. Any flight would need to meet the applicable aviation, privacy and location requirements.
The landscape has a history too
Older images circulated with visible strips of cleared ground, followed by reports about planting plans. Those photographs record a particular moment; they do not establish the present vegetation or the completion of a proposed wedding venue.
The retained historical aerial view is included to explain the island’s outline and the older coverage. It is not a current inspection of the property.
Make a wider coastal day of it
Use your interests to choose the rest of the outing: time in Zadar, a visit to Pašman or an organised excursion with clearly described stops. Leave space for the ordinary pleasures of the coast as well as the famous shape.
Galešnjak is a lovely reminder that geography sometimes resembles something personal. Understanding where it is and how it can be experienced lets you enjoy that resemblance without asking the island to become a promise it never made.
