A rooftop changes the way a city fits together. Streets that felt disconnected at ground level become part of a larger pattern, and a familiar building suddenly has neighbours you had never noticed.

These five venues offer different versions of that pleasure. Choose one for the city you are visiting and the kind of evening you want, then check its current reservation details. This is a selection of settings, not a ranking of the world's best drinks.

1. SKYE, São Paulo

SKYE sits on top of Hotel Unique, whose curved building is a landmark in its own right. The rooftop's red pool and broad city backdrop make a distinctive combination.

It suits an evening when the architecture is part of the attraction. Clarify whether you are reserving dinner or visiting the bar: a photograph of the pool does not mean a restaurant reservation includes swimming. São Paulo deserves time at street level too; our South American city guide helps put it in a wider itinerary.

2. Radio Rooftop, London

Radio Rooftop at ME London provides an elevated viewpoint in the Strand area. The attraction is its relationship with central London's dense collection of buildings and river landmarks.

Fit it into an evening already based nearby, rather than crossing the entire city for a short stop. Check the current menu, seating arrangements and dress guidance together. An outdoor photograph does not tell you what the experience will be like on a wet or windy night.

3. Vertigo and Moon Bar, Bangkok

Vertigo at Banyan Tree Bangkok is the rooftop restaurant; the adjacent Moon Bar serves a related but different purpose. Decide whether your priority is a full dinner or time with the skyline.

Use the exact venue name when reserving. Vertigo TOO is a separate indoor lounge, and its operating notices do not automatically describe the outdoor restaurant. Bangkok's weather makes an alternative indoor plan useful, especially if this is a special occasion.

4. 230 Fifth, New York

230 Fifth offers a Manhattan rooftop setting with a prominent view towards the Empire State Building. It can be a cheerful way to finish a day spent exploring nearby neighbourhoods.

The venue hosts different kinds of visits and events, so read the conditions for your date. Brunch, a private celebration and an evening bar visit may have different age, entry and reservation arrangements. A single old price or opening time cannot cover them all.

5. CÉ LA VI, Singapore

CÉ LA VI Singapore combines dining, a sky bar and a club lounge at Marina Bay Sands. Pick the experience you actually want before choosing a booking option.

Older travel lists sometimes include both KU DÉ TA and CÉ LA VI as separate Singapore recommendations. That overlooks the venue's change of name. Likewise, rooftop dining should not be confused with access to the hotel's infinity pool.

Make the view part of a good evening

Compare the complete cost, including any minimum spend or ticket conditions, and ask about alcohol-free choices if that suits your group. Choose a time that leaves room to arrive calmly and watch the light change.

A rooftop works best as a pause in a city you are getting to know. The streets below become more interesting when you have already spent part of the day among them.
