The room is part of the meal

The Conrad Maldives website presents Ithaa as an intimate underwater dining experience, with marine views around its transparent enclosure. The enclosure keeps diners dry; you do not need to dive to reach your table.

The interest lies in watching a changing scene rather than expecting a particular animal to appear on cue. Visibility, light and the movement of marine life can make two sittings feel different.

Choose the experience because you enjoy the setting and the meal together. A photograph alone will not tell you whether the current menu suits your tastes.

Ask these questions before reserving

Check which sittings are offered on your dates, what food and drinks are included, and whether any age or dress requirements apply. Explain dietary needs early enough for the restaurant to confirm what it can accommodate.

Dining and sleeping underwater are different experiences

Ithaa is a restaurant. The resort’s Muraka residence is a separate accommodation product, and historical promotions involving unusual overnight arrangements should not be treated as a current room category.

Likewise, a water villa normally means accommodation above the water. Read the named product carefully before assuming that its bedroom is beneath the surface.

A transparent dining room, not an aquarium show

The memorable feature of the original Ithaa photographs is the curved transparent enclosure. Tables sit beneath an arc of blue, so the boundary between restaurant and surrounding sea is visible above as well as beside the diners. A wide photograph emphasizes that shape; a closer one shows how food, table settings and passing marine life share the view.

Look at these images as a record of the room’s design, not a promise that sharks, rays or any particular fish will appear during a meal. The interest of the setting includes its variability. The ‘most beautiful’ description came from a newspaper in 2014, and works best as a record of the response the room inspired.
